中秋祝福 Moon River (译文)

moon river, wider than a mile 月亮河啊,你波浪宽阔
i'll be crossing you in style some day 我将有一天会与你翩然相遇
oh, dream maker, you heart breaker 哦,这织梦的河,是那么令人心碎
wherever you're goin', i'm goin' your way 无论你流向何方,我将永远追随

two drifters, off to see the world 两个漂流的人,顺流而下
there's such a lot of world to see 去看这世界的无尽奇观
we're after the same rainbow's end, 我们一同去追寻彩虹的尽头
waitin''round the bend 我们一同在河湾等候
my huckleberry friend, moon river, and me 我忠实的朋友, 月亮河和我

"Pete... hey, Pete." A whisper breaks through the dark and silence of her bedroom.

With eyes still closed, he whispers back, "Sleeping, Katie."

"No you're not. If you were, you wouldn't have answered."

He closes his eyes a little tighter, rolls onto her other side, still encases her in the circle of his arms as she faces him.

She pouts a little as she tells him, "I can't sleep."

Pete smiles a little. "That's because you're talking, Katie." Placing a hand over her eyes, he drags it down slowly, willing them closed. "Just shut your eyes..." he leans in and lets his lips tease hers as he adds, "and your mouth... and soon you'll fall asleep."

But it doesn't work. Which he should have expected. As soon as his hand leaves her eyes, they pop open again, wide and twinkling in the darkness. He can still see the sparkle of tear in them.

"Seriously, I can't sleep. Can I sing a song to you?"

"Oh Katie..." he starts to turn on his side again, but her hand on his shoulder stops him.

"Please, Pete?"

"I love your beautiful voice, come on. Sing us to sleep."

Pete closes his eyes again while rolling onto his back, and it takes mere seconds before Katie rests her head on his shoulder. She slips her fingers into his hair, closing them around the strands and pulling them through before starting the process again. Quietly, she asks, "What do you want me to sing?"

"That one moon song."

She furrows her brow toward the slow-spinning ceiling fan. "Moon song?"

"About the moon and the river and the rainbow."

After a moment, realization settles in and she smiles... clears her throat softly and begins to sing one of her favorite songs, from one of her favorite movies, low and soft.

"Moon river, wider than a mile... I'm crossing you in style someday..."

Pete sighs against her, snuggles a little closer and she can feel his smile against her shoulder.

"Oh dream maker, you heart breaker; wherever you're going, I'm going your way."

He hums softly, draping an arm across her, slipping his hand just under her pajama and stroking her stomach softly.

"Two drifters, off to see the world... there's such a lot of world to see..."

"Katie, I love you," he murmurs, and she can hear the sleep settling in to his voice. She smiles.

"We're after the same rainbow's end, waiting 'round the bend... my huckleberry friend, moon river and me."

She gives his hair one more stroke and kisses his forehead, closing her eyes.

She chuckles. "Pete, I told you it wouldn't work. Come on, just go to sleep now. We've both got work tomorrow."

At least a minute ticks by in silence while Jan waits for him to answer. She thinks, hopes, that he's maybe fallen asleep, before she hears his voice again... practically a whisper.

"Marry me."

And though her heart jumps into her throat at the simple two-word sentence, Katie surprisingly feels none of the panic she would've felt a month or two ago. Instead, she smiles; she kisses his forehead and strokes his hair again, murmuring simply, "Let's sleep first."
